During WorldPride, 22 LGBTQI+ seniors and 27 American students met at the Keizersgrachtkerk in Amsterdam. Over a shared lunch, organised by Edu-Travel, valuable conversations unfolded between two generations, each with their own experiences and stories.

The students, who are staying in Amsterdam for a summer school as part of their socio-legal programme, were curious about the lives of LGBTQI+ seniors and the changes they have witnessed over the years. That led to open conversations about visibility, acceptance, identity and the meaning of community. At the same time, the seniors had the chance to ask questions and get to know a new generation of engaged young people.

This gathering also marked a special moment. It was the final activity of Senior Meets Young Ones under the umbrella of Roze Stadsdorp Amsterdam. Stichting Wel zo Roze is proud to continue this initiative.

Because it is precisely by connecting people of different ages, backgrounds and life stories that new insights, encounters and friendships emerge. Step by step, we are building a strong, diverse and connected LGBTQI+ community in Amsterdam.

An important milestone: during Pride month, on 26 June 2026, Wel zo Roze officially became a foundation by signing the statutes at the notary.

This lays the groundwork for an organisation that wants to strengthen the well-being, safety, health and participation of (vulnerable) LGBTQI+ people in Amsterdam. In all its diversity, together as a community.

Since its establishment, Wel zo Roze has been granted ANBI status. We are also working on applications to funds and grant providers to further develop meetups, the buddy program and shelter initiatives.

For LGBTQI+ youth, status holders and young people in acute unsafe situations, we're working on temporary shelter that meets what people really need: safety, rest and a trusted face.

We're looking for collaboration with organisations, professionals and people with experience in shelter, youth care or LGBTQI+ well-being. Together we can create places where people can feel safe again.
