Many LGBTQI+ asylum seekers fled discrimination, violence or persecution. In regular shelter they can face exclusion, intimidation or fear again. A specialised shelter facility can therefore be more than a building: it can be a safe start.

Wel zo Roze advocates for a specialised shelter facility for LGBTQI+ asylum seekers in Amsterdam. Not to isolate people, but to offer safety, recognition and targeted guidance. From that safe base, people can recover, build relationships, get to know the city and participate in society.

Amsterdam has a strong LGBTQI+ community and a tradition of solidarity. That's exactly why the city can play a leading role. LGBTQI+ refugee support should not be a closed facility, but a safe base that stays openly connected to the city.
